Special Skills and Contributions
Building Teams that Work
Two major opportunities to lead a team has had acknowledged success at Perpetual Trustees and currently at DST. My staff enjoy being in my team.
Building Relationships with Clients
At DST I run a successful and fruitful working party with the major Australian clients on a quarterly basis. The relationship has evolved from my knowledge of their business and is directed towards achieving benefits for both vendor and client.
Extensive Knowledge of Investment Industry
As I have moved through the different positions detailed below I have looked to expand my knowledge of the industry, and utilise this in varying roles. My knowledge now covers the life-cycle of the industry, the types of instruments traded, and regional idiosyncrasies. At DST I have consulted internally on the Y2K and Euro compliance projects.
Developing Solutions
A major focus has been the ability to translate business requirements into computer-based or procedural solutions. I have developed major HiPortfolio system functionality from scratch, and have been used at important client sites to resolve critical problems.
Ability & Willingness to Learn Quickly
My jobs have taken me from operating in the investment industry, to analysing, and developing software for the industry. Each position has required a new set of skills, which I have been able to learn and to apply. Typically this has been done in an unstructured environment.
Putting My Skills into Practise
I was awarded the Company’s 1998 High Achiever Award.
This was part in recognition of the successful development of a major system project under very tight deadlines that carried the threat of severe pecuniary penalties for non-delivery.
Employment History
12/92 - Present DST International Pty Ltd (formerly HiPortfolio Pty Ltd)
DST International is an international software house which produces the HiPortfolio Investment Management software for fund managers, custodians and other financial institutions. I was recruited by the founder following completion of my MBA
Roles: Strategic Analyst
Senior Product Manager
Product Manager
Consultant
The position evolved from that of a consultant involved the specific analysis of a tax module in HiPortfolio to being in charge of the development, support and strategic direction of all investment accounting aspects of the HiPortfolio system.
This involves leading a multi-disciplinary team of project managers, business analysts, support consultants and developers.
Key tasks are the building and maintaining relationship with the user base, and keeping up-to-date with the funds management industry in Australia and overseas.
1989-92 National Australia Bank - Custodian & Trustee Services Division
Roles: Senior Business Analyst
Business Analyst, MAP Project Team
MAP was a special unit designed to fast-track the development of a new investment system for the Division.
My core contribution to the project was my experience and knowledge in many aspects of the securities industry. I was the touchstone for all major business issues.
In Phase 2 of the project my skills were used in putting together an extensive RFP, reviewing vendor responses, and making final recommendations to senior management.
I was then recruited by the Bank’s Master Custody section after a temporary secondment from previous position. This was my first working exposure to HiPortfolio, and a paper I prepared while there lead to an offer to join HiPortfolio.
